Photoshop Tutorial – Making an Old Tile Texture

In this tutorial we’ll create an Realistic Old Tile Texture:

1. Make a new file with the Width and Height=512.

2. Go to Layer->New Fill Layer->Pattern and select Green with Fibers pattern from the Color Paper group.

3. Go to Layer->Rasterize->Fill Content.

4. Go to Image->Adjustments->Desaturate.

5. Go to Layer->New Fill Layer->Pattern and select Tiles-Smooth pattern from the Patterns group, then set a Scale value of 200%.

6. Go to Layer->Rasterize->Fill Content.

7. Go to Select->Color Range then click on the white color from the pattern then click OK to make the selection.

8. Press Delete to delete the selected area, you shoul have someyhing like this:

9. Go to Layer->Layer Style->Blending Options and apply the following styles:

  • Drop Shadow

  • Inner Shadow

  • Outer Glow

  • Bevel and Emboss

  • Contour

  • Texture

  • Color Overlay

  • Pattern Overlay

The final result should be like the one bellow:

You can make a lot of different tiles using this, the image bellow was made using Filter->Distort->Polar Coordinates using this filter again will result into another pattern.
