In this tutorial we’ll create a bathroom tile texture:
1. Start by making a new file with the Width=512 and Height=512. 2. Using the custom shape tool draw the grid shape on the hole canvas like in the image below: 3. Go to: Layer->Rasterize->Shape to rasterize the layer. 4. Ctrl+Click on the layer thumbnail in the layer stack to select the countour of the shape, then press Shift+Ctrl+I to invert the selection. 5. Make a new layer and using the Paint Bucket Tool fill the squares like in the image below with #fff3d3 as the light color and #303030 as the dark color:
6. Press Ctrl+D to deselect the shape then Go to: Layer->Layer Style->Blending Options and apply the following styles:
- Drop Shadow:
- Inner Shadow:
- Bevel and Emboss:
- Use Contour with the default settings.
7. Select the grid layer and apply the following styles:
- Bevel and Emboss:
- Colour Overlay with #534d3e as the color.
8. Make a new layer above the squares layer. Then Go to: Filter->Render->Clouds. Set the layer blending mode to Multiply. 9. Go to: Image->Adjustments->Brightness/Contrast and set the Brightness=100 and Contrast=-36, then Go to: Filter->Noise->Add Noise and set the Amount=3,3 the Distribution=Uniform and Monochromatic selected.

Great tutorial. Thanks for being complete with the details. If it’s one thing about tutorials I hate is when people automatically assume we know what we’re doing or what goes next. I really appreciate ite.

Great idea, but I’m afraid I’m stuck on the second step. How do I draw the grid using the custom shape tool?

The custom shape tool is located in the tool window were is the rectangle tool, you select the rectangle tool then on the options window were are the rectangle, circle, line select the last option the one thath looks like a puzzle pice, then a option caled shape should appear click thath and select the grid shape.

I used the line tool instead of the shape tool. Used the calculator to divide the doc in 3..then rotated the lines 90 degrees…made the lines 9 pt.

Shew. It looks so easy but I’m not sure I’m drawing the grid right though it looks identical. My problem now is that I can’t get raster to show up usable under ‘layer.’ I’m too new but if you can give me a hint how to get that to show, I’d really appreciate it lots.
Thanks in advance…Myst :)
